Self-care is a term we are hearing a lot about and thankfully, it’s evolving from a discussion about temporary, surface-level ‘escapes’ like manicures and massages, to a much deeper way of viewing enduring care for our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
Unfortunately, a lot of moms still shy away from believing they deserve self-care as part of daily life. It can even feel like another pressure when our society still sets impossible standards for Moms and we lack support in fundamental ways.
Self-care, however, is not selfish! Moms are under immense pressure from responsibilities at work, home, with our kids and within our relationships. The mental load is still overwhelmingly carried by Moms in most households which makes taking time for ourselves essential. If you are stressed to the point of depression, anxiety or anger, it’s not good for anybody — certainly not you or your family.
