Let’s face it. Moms are tired! And it’s not just physically tired, it’s mental exhaustion. It’s a gift to needed but if we don’t take time to replenish, being ‘needed’ all of the time — at work and at home — becomes draining. The pressure of coordinating, planning and managing everything can feel relentless and thankless. When Mom’s Hierarchy of Needs surveyed nearly 200 Mothers asking what they choose to do to reduce stress, the majority said daily self-care enjoyed alone.
We are so conditioned to put others first that we often neglect our own wellbeing. It’s okay to want a time out. To be better Moms, co-workers and partners, we need to take care of ourselves too. Self-care can be small and gradual. Even if your self-care just means an uninterrupted shower, go for it! Try to take some time each day to recharge.
