Growing up part-time in Barbados, I was exposed to a much more relaxed lifestyle when I was there. No one rushed, and as a family, we took our time.
Conversations weren’t rapid fire texting, they were lively discussions on the porch that lasted well into the night. A far cry from my current life over-scheduled with work, kids activities and a little bit of social time sprinkled in. Living while rushing gets overwhelming. Quickly.
So it’s important to pause and reflect on the lessons from our youth and what helps us really heal. For me, my medicine was mother’s chicken soup recipe. When I make it, the smell instantly reminds me of comfort and a time when life wasn’t so chaotic.
