Childcare, even pre-pandemic, was a struggle for most working families. The costs can be astronomical and still leave many parents scrambling. Prior to the pandemic many families had a complex combination of nannies, daycare providers, after school activities or family members to get by. A lot has changed since Covid. Many daycare providers are closed, at home care has become harder to find and many of the grandparents that stepped in to help with childcare are no longer available due to the risk of exposure.
Despite the difficulties, we’ve started to see a trend in many organizations to help alleviate the stress of work and childcare. More and more employers are listening to their workers concerns. And are trying to create programs to help bring relief. It was a broken system long before the pandemic, but having a spotlight on this issue, brings hope to many.
